During picture research, I rediscovered the masterful work by Paul Gauguin: Where Do We Come From? What Are We? Where Are We Going? I was struck by the beauty of the painting, its mysterious composition, artistic intention, and the resemblance of the Vahines to the Walés. I immediately started to sketch. I would make the two photos a year later.
